Project Engineer

M. James Engineering provides an on-site labour force and engineering/management teams to complete works on major infrastructure projects.  

M. James Precast &; Fabrication (EnviroCast) services major infrastructure projects with precast elements. Services include everything from initial design and shop drawings to element casting, delivery, and installation.

Project: Glen Huntly Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP)

Role: Project Engineer

M. James Engineering were engaged at Glen Huntly LXRP by Southern Program Alliance (SPA) to complete the structures and stations packages, which included over 10,000m3 of tanking slab, abutments, bridge decks, and ancillary infrastructure.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Communicated continuously with the site-based, design and survey teams to organise, scope and complete feature and utility surveys of areas to inform ongoing design.
  • Obtained information such as above ground and basement feature surveys, cadastral surveys, building plans (structural, architectural, MEP etc.) and as-built documentation.
  • Consulted with design leads to clarify RFI’s for survey date, confirm additional design needs and investigation requirements. Activities informed from this work included structural design, space proofing, building settlement assessment and surcharge modelling for underground structures.

Project: Toorak Park residential development
Role: Site Engineer

  • The Toorak Village Project was a residential apartment project involving the construction of 450 apartments, across 16 buildings. The site was set up into 3 different zones, each with key dates and unique designs.
  • Completed quality inspections of apartments throughout the building process. This included identifying defects and scheduling contractors to complete unfinished work. I learnt the sequencing of trades that move through a construction site and saw apartments progressing from a base build to client hand over. It allowed me to work directly with subcontractors and organise works that were key for handover.
  • Lendlease delivered a Maternity Health clinic which I was tasked with overseeing. This included procurement of subcontractors and working directly with architects and engineers to rectify any issues that arose and to ensure this area was handed over on time and to a high quality.
