Senior Project Engineer | Laing O’Rourke
Bourke to Tram Alliance ($5.7B) | 2023—2024

Brodie worked on the Eastern Freeway - Burke Road to Tram Alliance Project as part of the North East Link project, providing engineering services to the Nexus Alliance (Laing O’Rourke, Symal, MRPV, Arcadis and WSP). Brodie managed the Civil and Structural aspects for site establishment and managed the construction of several compounds including a 700+ person facility. His key responsibilities included:

  • Managing self-performed civil works, including mass haul earthworks
  • Subcontractor management for various trades
  • Construction planning, costing, and programming of works
  • Managing a team of five engineers

The Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road Upgrade south is part of the Major Road Projects Victoria Program Delivery Approach, and includes a 5km duplication of the road between Ellett Road and Manks Road, upgrade of intersections, new shared walking and cycle paths, fauna underpasses, and urban design and landscaping works. Brodie’s key responsibilities and achievements included:

  • Delivery of Zone B works, 2km of earthworks, pavement and drainage works
  • Temporary Works Coordinator for the site – reviewing temporary works designs and risk assessments, and management of approvals process
  • CPS Coordinator – Developing RFIs, working with designers to develop responses and solutions, and ensuring design documents were updated accordingly

Melbourne Airport T4 Express Link Stage 1 ($50M) | 2021-2023

The T4 Express Link Stage 1 was a design and construct project for a new elevated connection from the Tullamarine Freeway to Terminal 4 at Melbourne Airport. Brodie’s key responsibilities and achievements included:

  • Development of alternative construction methodologies due to the discovery of unknown services, to reduce program impacts
  • Delivery of earthworks, drainage, pavement, RSS walls, and retaining walls
  • Procurement of subcontractors, and plant hire
  • Development of temporary traffic staging
  • Consultation with Melbourne Airport and Department of Transport
  • Cost control and forecasting

Brodie worked as part of the pre-contracts team for a number of project tenders, including the MRPV Tranche 2b EOI, M12 Central Package EOI (TfNSW) and Port Rail Transformation Project (Port of Melbourne). His key responsibilities included:

  • Development of delivery strategies, including utilities, traffic management, construction staging, and resource management
  • Development of vendor procurement packages, and assessment and awarding of packages
  • Research of social procurement opportunities and construction methodologies

Brodie worked on Stage 2B of the Western Highway Upgrade project (Buangor to Ararat), with Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) as the client. This project included the duplication of the Western Highway, two new bridges over Hopkins River, removal of the existing bridge over Hopkins River, rail overpass over the Melbourne-Ararat rail line, and entry and exit ramps. Brodie’s key responsibilities and achievements included:

  • Development of all traffic strategy documentation, all project traffic staging, and liaison with relevant stakeholders and road authorities
  • Delivery of earthworks, including mass hail and ground improvement and stabilisation
  • Management of complex head contract and subcontract, due to community concern and involvement on the project

Chandler Highway Upgrade ($110M) | 2017 - 2018


The Chandler Highway Upgrade widened the existing highway between the Eastern Freeway and Heidelberg Road, upgraded existing intersections, upgraded the existing bridge, and constructed a new road bridge next to the existing one. Brodie’s key responsibilities and achievements included:

  • Piling, concrete works, and temporary works
  • Quality Assurance documentation
  • Subcontractor management
  • Planning of upgrade works on existing heritage bridge, including significant consultation and liaison with Heritage Victoria and architects
  • Installation of architectural panels and completion of civil works

Brodie worked on a number of road and rail projects for Winslow Infrastructure, including:
Greaves and Pound Road Intersection - upgrade of Greaves and Pound Road intersections to increase vehicle capacity and improve traffic flow.
Chifley Drive Extension – VicRoads project to extend the private road for the Moorabbin Airport Corporation to provide access for the Chifley Business Park.
Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Duplication – 3.5km road duplication, including intersection upgrades, shared walking and cycle paths, and transfer of power cables from overheard to underground.
