  • Matthew is from Ireland and graduated from Civil Engineering / Construction Management in 2021.
  • He has experience as a Graduate Engineer working with a very well respected construction company (Ward & Burke) in Ireland, who are renowned for their long hours and have a great reputation for producing quality engineers. This work included water main rehabilitation works and deep drainage installation works.
  • He has spent the past two years travelling Europe, is keen for a new challenge and is seeking a Site Engineer role.
  • His references speak very highly of him and his work with Ward & Burke proves he can handle high pressure projects and he is keen to transfer this to his new role.

Ward & Burke | October 21 – October 22

Site Engineer | Cork

Working on water main rehabilitation scheme in County Cork.

  • Works included deep drainage installation and repair incorporating shoring box works.
  • Managed all elements from Site crews to ordering of materials and daily crew and costal locations.
  • Collaborated closely with the health and safety team to prepare risk assessments.
  • Communicated with the design team to align on pipe network design and specifications.
  • Managed administrative tasks including applying for permits and writing technical reports.
  • Coordinated with the construction manager, subcontractors, and stakeholders to maintain project efficiency.
  • Conducted site surveys, performed pressure test analysis, and managed mainline sterilization
  • Liaised with local authorities to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Ward & Burke are renowned for their long working hours (12 hour shifts) and this was no problem for me, I enjoyed the challenges posed.

EUROPEAN WORKING/TRAVEL

October 22 - August 24

  • Took time off to travel around Europe
  • Casual work including in the Alps
  • Gained a great appreciation for the outdoors and was exposed to harsh weather.
  • It was important for me to take the time to travel prior to embarking on the next stage of my working career in Australia.
