Providing engineering and construction advice, on a part-time/as required basis, to assist the Leed Engineering and Construction team in Cooma NSW with the preparation of various SNOWY HYDRO and SNOWY 2.0 project tenders.

Central West Pumped Hydro Project ECI EPC Contract Tender (Inlet, Penstock & Powerhouse Structures)
As part of the tender team for the $1.2 billion CWPH project, a 325MW pumped hydro storage development Simon was responsible for all aspects of the ECI process, including conceptualising construction methods and measures, and interfacing with engineering team, the ATCO team, and other JHG construction departments, as well as preparing updates and providing presentations, and providing detailed input in scheduling and planning, procurement and estimating
Pacific Highway M1 Extension to Raymond Terrace Project – Black Hill to Tomago (Southern) Package RFP
Simon was responsible for all engineering and construction planning input, including logistics, staging, programming, methods and temporary works, as well as constructability advice to design. Additionally scoping and estimating advice was provided for both procurement pricing, and estimate preparation, including pricing of marine temporary works and operations.
The primary focus was the Hunter River viaduct, and particularly the 400m crossing of the Hunter River itself, with associated methodology and temporary works. Focus was also on piling, for both the river piers and those on the floodplain, where piles were to be driven to depths of up to 65m below ground level. Additional input was also provided for precast concrete girder handling, delivery and erection logistics for the Hunter River viaduct.

Client: NELP Melbourne, VIC
Leading an international team of 6 engineers from the consortium parent companies, and based in SPARK’s offices in Melbourne CBD, was responsible for construction engineering and planning during the tender of all cut and cover structures for the Northeast Link Primary Package project.
This included:
> Development of construction methods for each of the work elements of the cut and cover structures
> Planning and programming of individual cut and cover structures, and coordinating this planning with the planning team and other construction disciplines
> Providing input in design on construction related issues, particularly in terms of construction methodology, sequencing and programme, constructability and value for money
> Coordinating interfaces with other construction disciplines, particularly tunnelling operations, to ensure provision any temporary infrastructure and specific requirements were accommodated within the cut and cover structures during construction
> Coordinating with the estimating team and providing input into the estimate, particularly in terms of construction methodology, equipment selection, construction productivities and work scope
> Provide input to the procurement team on packages of work, including scoping of supply and subcontract packages, pricing schedules, programme requirements and special conditions
> Interacting with the local construction market in terms of material supply, manufacture of components, and subcontracting of the major elements of the works. This was important given the magnitude of the cut and cover works, and the consequent pressure this applied to the supply chain, particularly for diaphragm wall construction, reinforcement cage fabrication, concrete works, bulk excavation and spoil disposal.
> Interact with the State on construction aspects of the project in face-to-face presentations and workshops
